The Do-It-Yourself: A Fresh-Scented And Effective Homemade Non-Toxic Cleaner

Bye bye, Clorox. Peace out, Windex.

A good clean at the end of summer will prepare you for an abundant season ahead. As important as it is to clean our homes and offices, it’s equally as important that we are using non-toxic cleaning products to keep us healthy and happy.

My best advice is to purchase eco-friendly all-natural products—or to make your own products. Steer clear of harsh cleaners that can be classified as indoor pollutants, i.e. anything containing unnatural chemicals that can have short term and long-lasting effects on your health.

Organic Lavender Essential Oil

  • 3/4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
  • 10 drops of your favorite essential oil
  • A squirt of all-natural liquid soap

Mix all ingredients in a squirt bottle and it’s ready for use!

…Want more? Here are a few more non-toxic “cleaning products” to try, all of which you probably already have in the house.

Lemon: Eliminates mold and grease. Smells fresh, too!

Baking Soda: A powerful cleaner to brighten surfaces.

Vinegar: This acidic agent with cut through tough grease and grime.

Essential Oils: When making your own products, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for aromatherapy while you clean. (My favorites? Lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, and orange.)
