If you find yourself in Rome for more than a couple days, there comes a time when you actually crave something other than wine, pizza, and pasta….yes, it’s true! I know because it happened to me. I set out to find some of the healthier places to dine in this ancient, magical city. Here, my top three healthy places to eat in Rome.
1. Active Natural Eating It’s a juice and smoothie bar that also offers salads, sandwiches, coffee, and quick meals for on-the-go. Located right near the Pantheon, it’s perfect for a midday pick-me-up while you’re out touring around. The smoothies are amazing and there are so many options to choose from!
Active Natural Eating Piazza di Pietra 62, Rome 00186; +39 06 4568 2056.
2. Écru Raw Foods Right near Castel Sant’Angelo, this open and airy cafe serves a wide selection of raw, vegan and vegetarian eats. It is run by two women who clearly take great pride in the food they are sharing. We tried a green juice and a homemade nut milk smoothie, but the salads and abundant amount of raw desserts that looked delicious, too.
3. Açaí & Friends Healthy, refreshing and nutrient-dense, açaí bowls are one of my favorite things to eat when home in Austin, Texas, so the fact that I found a cafe that sold nothing but açaí bowls and açaí smoothies made me the happiest little tourist in all of Rome. They come in three different sizes, and, most likely, you’ll want to opt for the large. Highly recommend!
Açaí & Friends, Via di Campo Marzio 69A, Rome 00189; +39 06 678 9257.
Bonus spot: We didn’t have a chance to visit Ginger Sapori e Salute but it looks like a place that would definitely make this list. Check out the menu online and if you can fit it in, I’m sure a dinner there would a spectacular choice.
